    Program Details

  • There are several reasons why we have chosen to focus on the orphans

    - Impact of orphans on future social stability; these children are mostly HIV negative and will continue to be a part of society for many years to come

    - Sense of urgency, as their numbers are growing quickly and there is a narrow window of opportunity in which they can be educated

    - Ability to provide care to AIDS patient indirectly
  • Children who qualify for the program are those whom have at least one HIV positive parent or whom have lost a parent to AIDS
  • Students receive funding until they finish junior high school; funding for high school and college is given on a scholarship basis
  • All money goes to schools directly to ensure it is used for an education
    Program Uniqueness

  • Long-term commitment: Chi Heng’s program is a long-term commitment; our goal is to help children complete their education, rather than just giving them one-off support.

  • Finite Project: There is clear end goal for this project, which will be completed when the last AIDS orphan graduates from school. As the HIV population in this area is stable now given that this method of blood collection has stopped, it is possible to accurately predict how many people are infected and how many children we need to help. We estimate about HK$24 million (US$3 million) will sponsor the education of every orphan in one county (with 24 similar villages) from the present time until that point, with funding needs being greatest over the next 5-7 years.
  • Sole operator: We are the only private foundation focusing on helping AIDS orphans in Central China that is operating on such a large scale. We believe Chi Heng has been allowed to carry on with its work because 1) the project is regarded as focused on education rather than AIDS and 2) the extremely low-profile nature of our organization and work.
